Hi, I'm Kim Headley — leatherworker, maker, and the hands behind every bag that leaves my studio.
I didn't set out to start a leather goods brand. It began as a way to supplement my horse hobby — and in doing so, I found a deep love of all things leather. I believe in creating pieces with weight and warmth, with character that deepens over time. That's how Kim Headley Leather began — one bag, made by hand, with materials I believed in. In a world of fast fashion and disposable accessories, I wanted to create something different: bags built to age gracefully and tell a story of their own.
The Materials
Every bag begins with the leather itself. I work with a carefully chosen selection of hides, each chosen for its beauty, durability, and feel:
- Mongolian — prized for its natural grain and exceptional durability, this leather develops a rich patina over time that makes each piece uniquely yours. No two hides are alike.
- Bison Leather — rugged, supple, and deeply grained, bison hide is one of the toughest leathers available, built for everyday use and a beautiful patina with age.
- Embossed Leather — classic patterns carefully pressed into premium leather, offering a refined look with the same lasting quality.
I source my hides with care, prioritizing quality and natural character over uniformity. No two pieces are identical — and that's exactly the point.
How I Make Them
Every bag is cut, hand or machine stitched, and finished by hand in my studio. I don't use assembly lines or outsource production — each piece goes through my hands from start to finish, from selecting the hide to the final edge burnish. I use traditional leatherworking techniques alongside modern tools to ensure every seam is tight, every edge is smooth, and every hardware piece is set with precision.
There are no shortcuts in my process. A single bag can take many hours to complete — and I wouldn't have it any other way. When you carry a Kim Headley bag, you're carrying something made with real care and real skill.
What Makes Them Special
Handmade leather goods aren't just products — they're objects that age with you. The leather softens and molds to your use. The patina deepens.
